Red Bull Cola Banned for Cocaine

BERLIN, May 26 - A German scientific finding that Red Bull Cola contains trace amounts of cocaine has prompted a controversy over the drink, analysts say.
The Health Institute in the German state of North Rhine Westphalia is expected this week to publish the results of a study that found 0.13 micrograms of cocaine per can of Red Bull Cola, a separate product from the popular Red Bull energy drink, triggered a ban on the cola’s sale in six German states, Time Magazine reported Monday.
Red Bull, of Santa Monica, Calif., says on its Web site it uses coca leaves as a flavoring agent in the making of its cola, but insists it removes the illegal cocaine alkaloid. The alkaloid’s removal is required for the sale of coca leaves outside the Andean region of South America, the magazine said.
Red Bull “Simply Cola” is made from 100% all natural ingredients including Kola Nut, Cardamom, Coca Leaf, Cinnamon, and Corn Mint which are among the 12 natural flavors in Red Bull Cola.
A classic, not too sweet cola taste, which comes from using only plant extracts from natural sources.
Red Bull Cola is strong and natural and does not contain phosphoric acid, glucose, and high fructose corn syrup unlike most colas. It has no preservatives and no artifical flavors.
It also does not contain taurine that made up the original Red Bull. What remains the same is the signature blue, red and silver cylindrical can.
This new cola is refreshing — not quite Pepsi, not quite Coke, not quite RC Cola, but a combination of them all.
New Red Bull is “all-natural” but still has the caffeine kick. Twelve ounces of the cola contains 45 milligrams of caffeine, about half the amount in an average cup of coffee.
